Feb 7th HUB Brown Bag: Using tech for good
On Feb 7th I’ll be giving a lunch time talk at HUB Ottawa outlining how to best leverage technology for social benefit. I spent 2012 developing websites, apps, and games for social benefit; championing causes such as international development, social services for the homeless, #IdleNoMore, children’s rights, and much more.
Some projects have been great successes, reaching thousands of people around the world and others absolute failures reaching no more than 3 or 4 people. I’m going to share the most important, actionable, lessons that I wish I knew before I started. Topics will include online and offline marketing, crowdfunding, web design, awesome tools, and minimizing costs; all with a focus on technology for social benefit.
Techy: Whether you are managing your company’s WordPress site or writing code for revolutionary apps, there will be valuable content for you.
Not Techy: If you put yourself in the not-tech-savvy-at-all category, I think you’ll find it very interesting just seeing what kinds of projects are possible with current technology, and you’ll be better informed to leverage tech-savvy people in future work.
I have a lot of content prepared, and depending on the tech savvy-ness of the audience we can go into more or less detail.
